Song Choice Dilemma and Changing Song

In a previous post, I told you about how we chose the song "Elysium" by Bears Den, and how Matthew emailed the production company for permission to use there song for educational use. However, things haven't went so well and we have come across a dilemma...
The production company stated that we could not use the song for blog purposes. This was not good as we need to post our final piece on the blog, and so we were back to square one, we had to chose another song for our music video. We decided to stick with the band Bears Den as they are a successful folk band who fit in with the idea of our piece. Matthew, who is a big fan of them, suggested we listen to "Agape", which me and Boj did. We both agreed it was a perfect song to use.
Therefore, Matthew emailed the same production company, and asked for copyright permission to use the song "Agape" for education purposes, and emphasised that we would upload it onto our blog.

However, another dilemma ocurred, as the company did not get back to us, we emailed them again, but the same thing happened. We decide =d it would be beneficial to change the artist, and production company. We all agreed we needed a back up song. When we planned what song we would use a few weeks back we chose three songs we might use, one being 'Agape, the other two being 'Parklife' by Blur, and 'Hey YA' by Outkast. However, both of these videos did not conform with the video that we had planned to make, and we wanted to chose a folk song. I made the suggestion that we use a Ben Howard song as I listen to him a lot and the genre of his music is folk. We wanted a song that was quite slow to begin, but then gradually became faster paced, as this conformed to the video we want to achieve. Therefore I chose the song 'Old Pine', which is in fact my favorite Ben Howard song. With this in mind I emailed the production company about possibly using the song for educational purposes.

Once this was done I just simply had to wait for a response. Eventually I got an email back, and it was good news, as it was confirmed that we can use the music video as long as we follow their strict guidelines.

This was great news, however we had quite a dilemma, the other production company, who owned the song 'Agape', also emailed back and said we could use this, and so we were back to square one and as a group had to decide what song to use between the two.

We came to a final decision, and we all agreed that 'Old Pine' was a much more suited song for a our music video as the tempo of the song, which gradually increases, symbolises growth, which is something we want to represent in our product. The music video is also very influential and we have also took ideas from it and we will use some of the styles and techniques from this video, make it our own, and then put it on our music video.
Here is the the video of 'Old Pine' by Ben Howard- the song we are using for our music video!

  1. Phew! That was real dilemma and you all worked really hard to sort it out. Well done to you all.
You discuss well and you must make it more apparent which email is which and show it a little bigger to allow the reader to see it clearly.
Make use of the comment box that can be added to each image.
